Have you ever heard of the fascinating new technology called Augmented Reality? It allows you to add virtual 3D-content to your real environment - even more - to interact with this 3D-content in your personal space. My video shows an example where we superimposed 3d-content on a classical encyclopedia (a kind of a magic book) Augmented Reality will change to way we use information in the future. You can meet your friends while walking through the street, your virtual buddy walking next to you. You can shop online and try out your favorite products (e.g. furnitures) in your living room before buying them. Generally speaking Augmented Reality brings to together two worlds: The real world and the virtual world. This will allow to combine every kind of user related content with the personal world of the user. Please feel free to comment on the video or ask questions on the technology behind.UPDATE: 1 year later - thank you very much for all your inspiring feedback and comments. Today this technology is already in use for books and interactive advertisement tools. There is also a live-demo available. For trials please go to www.metaio.comor send us an email to info@metaio.com Less

May 18, 2010 - I agree, or maybe put Augmented Reality lenses inside people who wear glasses already. The optician can make AR an add-on special price for adding them

Feb 25, 2010 - Well, yeah. But stick on a pair of glasses with screens in them, put a camera over each eye et voila! Instant stereoscopic interactive computer.
uberdeity Says:
Feb 25, 2010 - Such a mind-bogglingly stupid creature it assumes that if you can't bring up virtual information highlighting perfect towel-attack positions and escape creatures it can't see you.

Feb 24, 2010 - @MacTutorials1992 Well - matchmoving in realtime is actually AR. But you couldn't possibly tell in a recorded movie, it might have been rendered ... or captured. So - AR is really only AR when you're present when it happens. And if you see it again, it's a glitch in the matrix ;-)

Feb 24, 2010 - maybe if you would have seen the person's comment above me you would have better understood mine.
MacTutorials1992 Says:
Feb 24, 2010 - haha this is not AR, this is matchmoving...
Mophead800 Says:
Feb 20, 2010 - @ADeadRock Duh, that's what AR is.

Jan 3, 2010 - It wont be long until we are all wearing glasses or contacts that can bring the digital world into the real world. It will be amazing, think of the applications. Lets say an urban designer or preservationist wants to view what a main street or whatever looked like 150 years ago in order to restore its character. You could superimpose antique photos over the image you seeing and walk around it. And or make 3d models to see what a reconstructed historic building would look like. Just think....

Sep 28, 2009 - Yes, this video is what is seen through the webcam. The 3D objects, video, whatever are linked to the markers in the book. Cool idea, but you are actually looking at black boxes on the pages, you have to look on the computer screen to see the cool stuff through the webcam.
AkinaGod Says:
Sep 8, 2009 - your an idiot...
cetko13 Says:
Sep 5, 2009 - it's not FAKE it's AR!!!
ADeadRock Says:
Aug 30, 2009 - of course this is fake. he obliviously isn't seeing this through his eyes, but the webcam is taking video, and then the AR toolkit alters that video
duunganga Says:
Aug 17, 2009 - I agree with what some of the previous posters are saying that this is inaccurate. You need to read about Augmented Reality and re-write your info bit.

Aug 12, 2009 - Augmented reality (AR) is a field of computer research which deals with the combination of real-world and computer-generated data (virtual reality ...Idiot, huh?
